Electrical Supercharger
Discussion
Before I ask the question, I want to state that I live in Hong Kong and has nothing to do with these guys on ebay.
I saw these electrical superchargers being advertised on ebay.

I just want to see has anyone used it? Does it make sense? Any idea will it do the job as claimed? etc.
Appreciate all your views or experience.
Thanks & regards
Winston

Put it this way. In an ideal world, a 4 ltr engine draws 1 ltr of air per revolution, so at say 5500 rpm thats 5500 ltrs of air per minute, and a computer fan in a tube is supposed to provide more air to provide a positve pressure? I dont think so. Apart from that a real supercharger needs over 10 bhp to run it to get the required boost, and this fan is only 360 watts or .45 bhp. No chance.

You never know, that ol' computer fan might generate enough power to drive an iPod!

I see you're working on these newfangled 8-stroke engines now.
Im sure the extra air restriction in the pipe caused by the fan would actually lose power if anything...
I remember a similar product available several years ago called Turbo Zet, however it was largely marketed towards the Max Power massive in Vauxhall Nova SRs. Even that lot sussed out how rubbish it was.
Also if something as relatively simple as that did work, surely we would be seeing it on certain production cars? eg Fiesta ST "Fanspeed" could be Fords flagship hot supermini.

Presumably, how effective it is will be directly related to the particular engine air consumption, which has to be a factor of CCxRPM. Being that TVRs tend to have lot’s of CCs it is difficult to see how it could help. Perhaps better suited to something smaller and lower revving, 100e Anglia perhaps ? at least it would help the wipers work better.
Having said that I see the spec says 30A consumption, which must be about 22Hp load on the Alternator. Say the motor is at a guess 70% efficient the fan will be delivering around 15hp of air. No idea what that means in power benefit but can’t see you would get back the 22Hp load.
