I'm just in the middle of changing from the standard 240mm discs & calipers to a set of 283mm Cosworth RS500 discs & Granada Cosworth calipers.
I thought I'd take a picture to show the difference not so much in the disc size but in the pad area!
Can hardly wait to see what they are like!
Such a cost effective upgrade too.
Go on, you know you want too!

It'll fit fine. I even had 300mm with 4-pots under my 15" rims at one stage (that's about the limit though, it took an awful lot of juggling).

I was only joking about not being sure if they fit. In the bible SH says that 300mm is about the max for 15" wheels. The 283 discs are not a tight fit at all.
The great thing about this conversion is that it uses standard Ford parts. This has cost & availability advantages.
I paid £30 for both calipers which were in perfect working order, so good infact that I took back the rebuild kit I'd bought. My local motorfactors supplied the discs, £50.71 the pair. Add pads & new brake fluid & you are up to around £110 all in!
The only extra work required was to drill out the mounting holes from 10mm to 12mm & to put a washer between the hub & the carrier to line it all up.
You'd be hard put to spend more than 2 hours doing the work.

Slight tangent that may be of interest...

I am about to fit Mondeo Mk3 calipers and Focus ST170 discs to my Mondeo ST200 - perhaps this upgrade path (also using Ford bits) may fit the Griff/Chimaera..?

That sounds brilliant !! Didn't realise it was that straight forward. So its Granada Cosworth calipers I need ?? Or anything that fits over 283 mm discs as I assume calipers from other fords like Sierras are the same ??

Another slight tangent - does having the OZ split rims (as on Griff 4.x) have any implications for caliper clearance as opposed to the regular Chimaera wheels?

A lot of the Ford calipers from that era are very similar so other calipers may work. I think the clearance is set by the carrier rather than the caliper but the safest option is to find a breakers with a Granada or Scorpio cossie & pull the whole assembly. That way you know it will all go together.
As for the OZ wheels. I dont know. The new set up keeps the caliper in the same place but moves it outwards by approx 22m from the original position for 240mm discs.
