Hi Everyone,
The time has come when my 95 chim roof needs to be recovered it has had two new window panels but the fabric has seen better days, i've decided to do the whole thing myself,i have bought navy mohair and tinted window film.
Has anyone done the whole thing before and maybe pass on any tips?
many thanks

I have been thinking about doing my folding section of roof myself...it depends how much the material costs compared to the ones advertised for £295

The only thing you will need is a strong sewing machine!!!

I made a tonneau for one of my kitcars a couple of years ago and was wondering how to stitch the material. I tried an old Singer hand wound sewing machine we had lying around, with a 'leather' needle from the singer shop, and it went through it like a knife through butter. We stitched up to 6 layers at a time of the heavy hooding vinyl so should be able cope with a couple or three layers of mohair... Of course you will need your other half to turn the handle while you guide the material through.

Ebay or a big boot fair would be the place to find an old singer for 20 quid or so I reckon.

Good luck! thumbup

Thanks for the replies. I should have said,i am an upholster by trade so have the equipment to do the job, the fabric and window panel cost me less than £90.
what i was wondering was if any body had done a recover and had found any pitfalls i,e removing old glue, which glue? or any thing that wouldn't be glaringly obvious

You need to look at www.thegriffithpages.com because Simon has recovered the rear of his roof and documented it there, and I think someone also documented the targa recover there too.
The website has gone a bit PeteTong at the minute but its because Simon is moving it all to a bigger faster server this weekend, so give him a couple of days and have a look.
Alternatively, drop him an email - his PH name is Ballistic Banana

Open admission that you are barking?...

Or was it just the morning after the euphoria of dispatching all those dregs of society back to Botany Bay once again hehe

Euphoria of a 2hr dawn blast through the Peak District Dave.
Just got back and I'm now off to my mates for bacon sarnies and the F1 GP where our young whippersnapper will hopefully do us proud and become World Champ in his rookie year.

With the sun shining up on the top end of the peak district, and no other cars in sight it really was like god was looking down on me this morning. Truly wonderful (and wonder full) biggrin

We are lucky to have such nice routes on our doorsteps wink Timing of runs is so crucial tho (unless you are into posingcruising), unfortunately being a Badgerhead my time is normally around dusk hehe Just listen out for the helicopters (what a joke!)evil.

For someone the Paella lovers think is a spoilt brat he certainly handled himself remarkably well after his tyre gamble went pear shaped. Seems at odds to their hero who seems to have a penchant for molesting lockers when things don't go his way (note to self: must stop reading the ToryGraph reader comments). Ron & Nobby looked genuinely more deflated than the precocious terrier, I reckon we should check his birth certificate (he truly is a little tyke) hehe
