Afternoon all, After looking for my diff filler plug i found it was virtually inaccessible to undo, my car is a 1995 with t-5 box and diff has fins so i think is btr. Is drilling a hole in the boot an option?

Mine might be different as it's a 93, but the diff has got fins on it, I can get to mine by removing the offside wheel and using a 1/2 drive ratchet and long extension with out socket on the end as it goes straight into the plug. I use PTFE tape on the plug before replacing it.

Paul.

Is the filler at the side or rear of the casing?

If you are unsure, an easier way to tell what diff you have may be:

GKN has nice round output flanges to the drive shafts.
BTR has ABS sensors on the output flanges, nearside commonly used for speed sensor.

It's at the back of the diff about halfway up?

Sounds like it is the GKN then, cheers Dave!

A 2" long 1/2" drive extension is what I use, plenty of leverage on the other end. The plugs are a taper fit, which tend to get over tightened and folks add sealants of all varieties just to make matters worse. If you feel you must use sealant, hand tighten, loosen and just seal the last few threads. It should be fine around 30/40lbfoot I reckon (not sure if my 'feel' to measurement is correct tho) nipped up anyway.
