Big welcome to PH and the forum
Just before everybody gets on your case
Please turn your caps lock of when typing a post, as it's considered SHOUTING, and it's rude to shout!
Lots of info to be had take a look in the Forum FAQ's or go over to the Griff forum, same car under the skin.
Happy hunting

The best thing to do is to get a copy of Steve Heath's guide to Chimaeras and Griffiths and study it.
The guy mentions he is a TVRCC member, give the regional guy a shout to see if he knows the car here are the details....
http://www.tvr-car-club.co.uk/regions/
FSH, so ask who the history is with and call them to get a realistic appraisel.
Also get along to your own regional meet even if you haven't joined yet, look at the cars, get a feel for what you are looking at, maybe get one of them to look at a car with you.
They are really rewarding cars but the condition is the most important thing especially the chassis, wishbones etc
Good luck.

First of all a BIG WELCOME! (i can shout 'cos he's up there and I'm down here)I wouldn't know where to begin.
Without power steering your 8st shrimp is limited to a straight line - really.
Do take your time and see a few cars, I know they won't like me saying it, but at dealers time... you will get a feel for which are the most helpful when you need further advice and serving later. There are many variants of the Chim so get to know all of them before you settle on which model exactly.
These are not your ordinary car - there are many things to look for which are peculiar to these cars so forget your average AA. Local owners are usually pretty good at being able to tell you the problems they have experienced with their cars but I wouldn't like to be responsible for looking at a car for a potential buyer. There are people out there who specialise in TVR vehicle inspections (james agger and others) and their inpections are worth their weight in gold. There are many cars now out there which have been badly maintained and you can easily spend £7K on buying a nice looking car only to find you have to spend another £7K on rectifying serious but concealed faults.
Just don't risk it for the sake of a proper inspection... it saved me from a financial black hole on something which cosmetically looked very good. Appearances are very often deceptive and fully stamped service book is not always something that one can rely upon either.
Finally don't be put off. It's actually enjoyable going out looking at cars. Just use and be prepared to pay for good advice. Be prepared to pay for a good car (it's better than buying cheap and paying through the nose for repairing a basket case) and then you should have a good starting point for maintenance purposes. Above all you should then hopefully be able to enjoy it rather than having to cut one's losses, dump it through ebay and chalk it down to bitter experience.
Good luck although I hope you won't need it now!

Thanks for all info, forgot about caps lock put it down to age
I have looked at a chim in Sunderland area 1994 £6.850.00, yellow as described earlier, I like the car all usual things done chassis wire brushed down, waxoiled, new diff 1200 miles ago, full service history no pas but did not finde it a problem.
This car will be garaged after full service at TVR Borobridge and only used during good weather.
I have driven car, looked, listened, turned engine on/off at correct temp, fans kicked in at 90 car ran 25/30 p.s.i. all looked good so against advice I have bought the first one I have seen, could look for ever and would any car be any better or worse I dont know.
So here I am part of British sports car history and over the moon, hopefully I wount be disapointed. Again thans for all info and look forwords to plenty of GASSING.
Cheers
