Tyre combination???
Discussion
My Chim has Bridgestones all around. S02 pole postion at the front and the S03 PP at the back. Fronts need replacement. Tyres at the back still have 50% thread. I know the S02 is no longer available. The Dutch importer still has the S03 PP but is asking Euro 500 for 2 tyres (about 350 UK pounds). Problem is when the tyres in the back need replacement, most probably the S03 is no longer available. Ofcourse I can buy 4 S03's from the importer, but find them quite expensive.
Question is should I now change to Toyo TR-1 all arround or can I just replace the front tyres to Toyo's and keep the back and change those later to Toyo's also? Or will 2 different set of tyres influence handling?

Shouldn't be any issues changing the fronts to Toyo's and keeping the rears as they are. As long as you keep both of the fronts the same and both of the rears the same. You may need to check with your insurance company that the Toyo's are ok on the front as they are only V rated. I have just put Toyos's all round on mine and they feel good so far. I had the Dunlop SP9000's before which are Z rated and also good although a little pricier.

Thanks for all the feedback.
The main question remains whether 2 different brands on the front and rear will influence handling?
From what I have read in the past, having different brands front and back can definitely affect your handling and the car may feel decidedly unstable. Even having T1-S on the front and T1-R on the rear made my Chim feel, well... I didn't have confidence with that set up, which was cured when I went for T1-R all round. The main question remains whether 2 different brands on the front and rear will influence handling?

Or Dunlop SP9000's all round for £270 inc vat and delivered from Blackcircles.....Very happy with my new boots!
I'll go with that , very pleased with my 4 Sp 9000's.Got mine from Micheldever tyres near Winchester mail order for a similar price. massive improvement on So3's which inspired no confidence at all. How old are your SO2's that you want to keep? £270 for a set of Z rated tyres on a car like this is not a lot, equates to just over 1 tank full of V Power per tyre!!

Are you sure you got the right tyres as the Toyo's i got for mine are all Z rated as you have to put the correct rated tyre on the car or you void your insurance. Are you shaw that your insurance company is ok with you only puting V rated tyres on your chim.
hi ,thats a load of rubbish . the insurance company sent me in writing and explaied the tyres shoud be capable to drive the car up to 70mph... which is the legal speed limit .the toya proxis on the front are v rated (150mph) and the rear w rated up to (180mph). try making a claim when you admit you were doing over the legal speed limit

I am still considering binning the Toyo's. I have them on 17"/18" rims which should help the poor sidewall stiffness and large tread block movement. I find the tyres great for grip and predictability when they break. The big disadvantage i find is excessive loss of turn-in precision and feel. Much more "wollow" with these tyres compared with stiffer tyres.
