1st time buyer... More hazardous than the housing market?
Discussion
Hey guys!
In search of my first TVR at the young age of 23, I've read loads of the discussions on what to look out for in terms of spec and condition (which has all been very helpful!). The only thing I'm left wondering about is mods...
It would seem sensible that uprated brakes and tyres would be a good idea in terms of performance and car value. But what of other issues, both aesthetic and fuctional, as to both performance and resale value of the car.
Essentially which mods are deal makers and which are massive no-no's.
I understand that this is a massively wide subject which probably reflects my naivity and inexperience on all things TVR (I just wanna get it right!)
Thanks guys,
Dom

Welcome to PH.

Modifications to your own car will be entirely dependent on what you use the car for (weekends only, daily commute, track days, etc) and your own personal preferences.
1st off; Tyres MUST be good quality - no skimping on such a performance car.
Brakes must also be decent spec., but you don't need to upgrade as such unless you anticipate giving them some heavy use, or find they are not as good as your previous car.
People tend to do any upgrades of suspension as and when the original equipment needs replacement anyway, likewise for brakes, exhaust and minor parts come service time.
Biggest no-no? bodykits!

Oh no! Don't be thinking I was going to be making this a "dirty" chimp. just a couple of things I was looking at... Many (if not most) advertised chims have standard alloys on them, is that because branded alloys are persona non-grata within the more knowledgable?
I've seen the speed six light conversions, which I feel is a bit to bling for the chimera, but what about upgrading the fiesta lights for the clusters: is this expensive and/or desirable in terms of future dealings?
I have so much to learn!

If we are not talking about performance mods then most TVR gets modified with Levan accessories (assuming you buy one that has not had them fitted) E.g. Stainless kick plates, alloy handbrake, turn levers etc.....
I have done these mods and also changed my side repeaters to white ones. An easy change that cost around £8. You will find them listed on Ebay. Look for those for a Mk3 fiesta.

Bl00dy He11... If theres not been enough trolling from demented Spaniards and moronic Southern Hemisphereans... Now we have to stop our own! "a dirty chimp" is something which I believe Grifters have private 'moments' with.

send him over to the dark side, we`ll soon sort him out

If we send him over there he'll be back with a tail between his legs
in no time - I'm sure.Dave
Dirty is fine, even positive in my book
You should however never mention primates, it arouses the Grifters uncontrollably (they are dark onerous creatures with matted chest hair and bald heads with eyes too close together and keen noses, you can be sure they will pick up on the scent - and since they all suffer from Premature Evacuation
it will get messy!)
