Windscreen... steel 'suround'
Discussion
Anyone know whether the steel surround that the rubber screen trim bonds to is available (or even 'easily' changed)? Popped the seal off to rebond yesterday and mine is looking a bit sorry under there. Is it bonded in to the body GRP or just sandwiched under the screen itself? (awaits bad news)

I’ve heard it called the “aperture” and it looks to be riveted to the surround (at least at the top it is). When I had my windscreen replaced the guy wanted me to come down and have a look at it, it looked like it was either replaced at some point (badly replaced), but I couldn’t find any reason why, or it was just not attached very well from the factory. Basically it was put on crooked and looks to have been hammered to try and straighten it.
That caused a big problem putting the gasket on. Regarding the gaskets, I made Autoglass re-do the installation 3 times (which they did with no argument at all) and each time they used a new rubber, so I don’t think they are that rare or they would have mentioned it.
Best bet on the aperture is to ask someone like Ferhurst or any of the dealer/specialists, they would know. Andy at APM knows a guy who has done hundreds of Chimaera windscreens, if you really get stuck let me know and I’ll find out for you.

Cheers, that's helpful. I've not had a good look at it as I have been trying to avoid completely removing the seal. If it just rivets on or is otherwise bonded on (rather than in) and isn't structural, then no biggie That caused a big problem putting the gasket on.
