Got in the car last night (98 Chim) to enjoy what was left of the sun and go for a spin, and the drivers window didn't work! Window switch just seemed to be dead. Stuck in the up position (fortunately).

Was working fine yesterday when I last drove it, probably even used it when I locked the car up, wasn't struggling to go down or up. So bit perplexed why it is now dead.

Any clues on the best place to start to sort this out?

Try "PistonHeads"

Seriously a search of the archive (last couple of weeks) loads of discussion on this

Fair enough comment, guess that I was just being lazy.

Have had a read through some of the old threads and am now off home to try a few things out and see if I can fix it. But sounds as if anything to do with taking of the door trim is going to be hassle.

Reckon I'll start with taking the speaker out and seeing if a connecting wire has fallen off and then take it from there. Screwdriver in one hand and bible in the other, but depending on the progress I may have to swap the SH one for the holy one.

This isn't very technical but it worked for me. Pulled out the electric window switch, checked plug etc, all seemed fine. Wiggled the loom around a bit and it started working again, put it back, has not missed a beat since. You never know, may be worth a try.

Sorted!

Took the door speaker out and wiggled the wire around that connects to the motor. Just a loose connection and working perfectly again!
