To hiss or not to Hiss?!

Just a quicky, am i supposed to hear a hiss when I remove the fuel filler cap, as per most other cars? Mine never has and i noticed that the cork seal is completely knackered

Mine sometimes hisses but not always. I have had an issue 2 times in the past 3 months when my car would not start, but when i have opened the petrol cap it has let out a hiss then started.

There is something in the bible about this that explains it well - look under petrol tank, was reading about it the other week.... around page 95 or 104 i think from memory if anyone has theirs to hand.

Think it said some hissing was not a problem, but once someone can look up in the bible i'm sure they can update this....

Thanks Tim. Its never been an issue, just that it suddenly dawned on me when I filled up the Volvo last night and it hissed at me and the TVR doesnt!
