Hi

I have a problem with my Cig Lighter. Tried to use my Nav System, but no power. Have renewed the socket and checked all fuses, but still no 12 volts.

Am I missing something, or is this a known prob? Can anyone point me in the right direction pls?

Are you certain that there is zero power at the socket ?

Not all cigarette lighter plugs 'fit' snugly within the socket - sometimes the sprung loaded pin on the end is too short.

Assuming that the cigarette lighter doesn't work either, it would be worth double checking the socket with a voltmeter..

I also have a similar problem in that 'something' in the cig light circuit keeps blowing fuses (the side mirror demister circuit shares the fuse). This happend for previous owners as well and looking back in the service history, it has never really been cured.

So to run my TomTom I purchased a 3 socket ciggie lighter extension lead from H'fuds, nipped the end off and wired it into the radio circuit which is switched so won't drain the battery if left in place.

Installation and feeding the wiring through was relatively easy even for sausage fingers here. The power lead forthe TT fits into one of the extension sockets which sits nicely under the dash and feeds up in the join between dash and windscreen - looks quite neat, not at all obtrusive, and no holes drilled.

Maybe consider having the satnav hardwired. My lighter was in bits so I just disconnected and removed thw whole thing apart from the top bit that just "sits" in its mounting in the door. I was considering satnav and thought I'm bolloxed because of the lighter then it was suggested that I could have it hardwired.

I picked up a switched 12V on an unused relay position on the relay board under the dash for mine.

Some plugs come with interchangable 'pins' to solve this problem..

Check the connector in the door behind the speaker. It's a pretty damp environment in there that often causes exactly this type of problem.
