talk to carl baker - he does a key fob remote boot release. he did mine about 12 months ago and it's one of the best mods i've done - saves loads of hassle!

Can't recommend the David Beer boot release enough.
I can't imagine ever having to go through all that open car, shove head in, put key in, press button - just to get into the boot.

Its easy to take a feed from the courtesy light hood connector for power (only after opening/closing door) to a reed switch, relay & magnet. Works fine for me and only cost a couple of quid wink

I fitted a push button switch just below the driver's side hood mounting pivot. Only works with the alarm off/door open, easy to do, no messing with reed switches, magnets etc. Left the original working as it was.
Standard 4 pin relay, decent pushbutton switch, cheap to do too.

Considering you need to make a hole for the switch, whereas a reed switch is about 1" long and simply stuck behind a panel, I find your reference to messing rather odd?

I prefer to simply push a good old fashioned switch rather than wave a magnet about, each to their own I guess.

The other significant point is that its also useful to provide an alternate mechanism (& power source) to get into the boot (petrol filling particularly), fuses blow & connectors corrode at the most inopportune moments wink Splicing a switched 12v as close as possible to the boot solenoid wiring loom seemed a wise idea to me.

Carl Baker is very good, but that mod is only for the Meta Alarm. Quite keen on the reed-switch route. But the magnets that Maplin recomend need the magnet to be within about 10 to 15mm to activate the switch in the correct orientation. I think this makes it too much of a PITA to operate whilst holding an overnight bag or shopping. Maplin also have rare earth magnets that are supposed to be much stronger, would this work? Or is the fact that they are round instead of bar shaped make the reed-switch more likely to just chatter and not activate the relay? Interested to hear if anyone has tried this.

Thanks.

B.

I use a larger magnet (10p size - stuck on the alarm fob) , added benefit it doubles as a coin holder wink I find I can just haphazardly swipe the wing & the boot pops.
