early chimaera exhaust

hi, i have a 94 4.0 chimaera and wondered does anyone know how effective it is to remove the baffles out of my standard exhaust? really i just want it much louder, is this possible without removing the cats? i would be grateful for any help on this, thanks.

Can't see why this should be a problem. Mine has had the silencer replaced with straight through pipes, and although it's de-cated aswell it is very very loud.
I'd imagine cats in would still be loud but in all honesty probably loud enough.

Sleeving - Open up silencer, cut out baffles replace with solid pipes weld box back up - Lots of places do it for around £150
Cherry bombs - same as above but put cherry bomb silencers inside the box instead of straight through. Bit quieter but still very noisy. about £150, offords seem to be most popular for getting this done
Pre-cats - remove the precats replace with ACT s/steel pipes. Not sure if its much different , never done it. ACT sell them, cant remember how much
Main cat - remove this and pre-cats and it will be v.loud but wont pass an MOT. I think ACT also sell the pipework for this

I've had my 450 sleeved but all cats still in place. 123db @ 6k RPM. Its quite loud

Had the wadding removed from the silencer on mine, no sleeving on the pipes, just took out what was between the pipes inside the box, left the wadding that was packed down the sides. Very easy to do, just need someone with a welder, cost is a drink for the help, end result is an exhaust that is loud but not too loud if you know what i mean!

Cherry bombs are what I have - not as loud as sleeved but much bassier and IMHO a better sound.
Don't whatever you do just open them up and remove the wadding as this will just resonate and sound tinny. In all cases whether you put in cherries or straight throughs you should re-pack some of the wadding to stop this.

Pre-Cats, I have ACT stainless de-cats on mine and they make absolutely NO difference to the sound. Some people on here swear blind it does but I'll be damned if I could tell the difference.

just cut the heathan box out and weld in two straight thru pipes....!!!
Added benefit of losing about 5kgs as well...!

I've got straight through pipes with no padding,it sounds great,louder but not too loud,and not offensive,with a lovely deep V8 burble.
If you wanted still louder, I guess you would remove the pre-cats'.

Not sure there is any difference in noise levels with the pre-cats out. I thought it was more a case of they don't serve any purpose, and could get clogged up and restrict the horses ?
