I am planning to change the oil and filter this weekend. Does this procedure sound ok?

1. Fill the new oil filter with as much oil as possible first, as it will prime quicker once it is fitted.

2. Loosen the existing oil filter first (if possible), and then loosen the sump plug.

3. Remove the sump plug and drain the oil.

4. Re-insert the sump plug.

5. Remove the old filter and replace with the new one.

6. Fill the car with 5.5 to 6 liters (max) of oil, and leave to settle for a minute or two.

7. Check the dip stick to see if there is sufficient oil.

8. Start the car.

9. Oil pressure should be 15-30 PSI (possibly more) on start up with cool fresh oil (Chimaera 500 Serp Engine).

Cheers. BB.

Recently done mine (500 serp) with same procedure (except I replaced the sump plug) without any problems.

Cheers

7.5 Remove King lead from coil

8. Spin the engine over. Should see Oil Pressure light go out.

8.5 Replace King lead to coil.

9. Start car.

10. Oil pressure should be 15-30 PSI (possibly more) on start up with cool fresh oil (Chimaera 500 Serp Engine).

Just a thought thumbup extra points added to make sure the oil gets pushed around before engine fires up.

Serp engines seem to prime quite happily, I don't think you need to be so exacting on these engines as the pre-serps. New sump plug washers occasionally are well worth it IMHO.

Dropping the sump can be done before doing the oil filter if you want to check the pickup pipe etc.

Plenty of instances of blocked strainers from silicone bits and even loose pick ups, I guess that wouldn't bother you tho?

i'm not very mechanically minded but would love to change the oil on mine so that i can say i have done it.
does anyone have anymore detailed instructions, with maybe pictures of the procedure. I know this may sound lame to you mechanical gurus, bu nonetheless i would still love to give it a go!

T man, I had not done it before, but I followed the procedure that I posted above and it went without incident.
All I would say is make sure you have the jacked up securely, on axle stands, in gear, with handbrake on etc etc , buy an oil filter remover tool (£5 from local autofactors) and have a tray big enough to hold 6 litres of used oil.
It really is easy.

I had to do an unexpected change of oil on the Wedge over the weekend.

Been compression testing (coolant loss), but could find no problems.

Then I started it up, and it sounded like a can of marbles yikes

My Cousin (top spanner monkey) had a listen, and pronounced 'a lifter has bled down, flush it and change the oil / filter'

So one oil change later and all sounds quiet again. Just need to leave the thing in the garage for a few days to see if the lifter bleeds down again.

If it does, then I'll probably take the opportunity to strip the engine, fit a wilder cam and get the heads 'fettled'.

PS Glad the oil change went well for you.
