My dash veneer is now really cracked and ready for replacement. I want to keep the walnut look but am not that keen on the radio surround on my pre-face lift interior.

Could i fit a newer dash with the rotary light switch by just re-wiring things?

Or

Should i produce a bespoke number; new style top dash but with custom push button radio surround. Any suggestions or details of someone that could make and mount the veneer?

Hi there

Just going through all that now. Have got the small radio DB out to practice on. Stripped the old veneer off and prepped the metal. New veneer purchased. Going to use West System epoxy to glue it on. Have now glued it on. Will keep you posted.

May or may not work out.

Pics would be useful if you could. I'm thinking of doing mine some time.

Doing mine soon. I've just bought a second hand dash to use. I'm now trying to decide between
Trad Walnut
Black Walnut
Black Carbon fibre
Silver C/f
Titaniun C/f
Not sure whats going to look best with my Black dash top, Tan other bits & red carpet.
Just waiting for the samples to arrive.

It's possible, but you'd need a lighting ECU and you'd need to know what the connections to it are. Connecting new light switches to it is simple - they're on flat ribbon cables - but you'd also need the three light switches that go with it: side/headlights, rear fog and hazards.

I got a piece of Flame mahogany. Do be careful. Wood gets a lot darker as you apply coats of varnish.

I've got mine to do, what varnish did you use to give the final finish to the wood.

Im just waiting for my dashboard to come back from a local "bespoke furniture manufacturer" who is doing it in an oak veneer and will be using the same varnish that is used on pub furniture...the benefit will be the grain will be visible rather than the almost plastic look you get on some "over varnished" dashboards...and if ever i spill my pint whilst driving it wont stain wink ....lmao...will post some pics when i get it back...cheers,
Steve
