Hi everyone,
I have a strange problem. Under acceleration or braking, I can hear what sounds like a relay clicking in and out, coming from the passenger side of the car. Sounds similar to the fuel pump relay or the one for the windscreen wiper intermittent setting. No other symptoms yet, e.g. fuel pump cutting out long enough for stall etc.
Any one else had this or ideas of which relay it could be?
Cheers.

If it is the same as the Griff then check the door switches. If one of them is only just making it may make and brake under vibration and load making the internal light relay to clatter. More importantly, if this is the problem then a flat battery could be the next problem.

I would agree with the door theory. My interior light sometimes flashes on and off on bumps or if I lean on the door and if the central locking is on then it switches itself off!
I've assumed the door microswitch is dodgy but haven't got round to investigating yet!

Have you looked for anything loose that could be moving around and making a tapping noise? It may not actually be a relay making the noise.

Most likely to be a problem with your wiring loom in the passenger footwell - movement under acceleration or braking is interupting supply to relays.

I had a similar thing some time ago, clicking / rattle from the passenger side.

Discovered it was coming from the hidden compartment behing the passenger seat and it was a CD changer, that I did not know I had ! Top result.

Had similar 2 weeks ago which turned out to be the cooling fan relay switching frantically.
Relay was o.k. it the otter switch on the swirl pot that was faulty. Disconnect wires to otter switch and connect together, fans will be on constant and see if you can still hear a relay switching.
Alternatively remove one non critical relay at a time to eliminate them from the list of usual suspects, I am told that the courtasy light relay (Big yellow one, top far right) is the most common suspect.

You may be right here Bluebottle, as I have had a few sudden very short losses of power recently, like you get when the fans cut in (always thought it was the current drain making the voltage drop so far that the ignition cut out)but has happened without the fans cutting in. Must investigate further.
It could also be the wiring loom thing as I have just recently disturbed it all to replace the battery.

Thanks to all posters.
