Anyone ever swapped the early (Rover) gearbox for a later T5 unit in a Chimaera, is it just box and prop or is it more complex.

thanks Mark

Bell housing, mounting points, chassis, remote linkage,....

Not really worth it.

Hello Steve
Thanks for that, I have what I can only discribe as a 'take up clunk' when pulling away which my garage called 'lost motion' and say I'm stuck with it. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the gearbox, at a later stage I was thinking of tuning the engine so if the box is not 100% a swap could be the way forward.

cheers Mark

Yes except that you will be looking at probably over a grand to do the conversion on top of the cost of the box.

Lost motion is a new one on me... Take up clunks are usually loose/broken diff mounts, CV/UJs on their way out or similar. Considerably cheaper to replace.

I had rather a bad clunk on my diff, which turned out to be a badly worn UJ. Since it has been fixed there is still a very slight clunk when putting the car in 1st gear but it's my understanding that they all have some degree of slack in the transmission path. By the way mine has a T5 gearbox to.

Have been told that all my UJ's mounts are okay, oh one other thought (from another engineer) was a damaged clutch
