intermittent battery light?????

Hi all
just replaced the alternator on my 4.0 95 model and now im getting an intermittent battery light. when i switch off the ignition it stays on,if i switch back on then off it goes away,any clues?
could it just simply be an ignition barrel gremlin?

Pull the spade (YMMV) warning light/exciter connection off your alt.. (thin Green Brown wire IIRC)

If with the ign off the spade connector is still live, then you have a wiring problem - ign switch / ign relay...

Else the alt terminal is still live - faulty alt.
