Sounds like altenator whine... Its caused by interference when power wires are run too close to speaker wire or possibly a bad earth. Does the pitch change with revs?
Seems to disappear when revs increase, although this could be due to the increase in engine and exhaust noise. I'll check out the routing of the speaker wires first. It's not really a whine that I've had before on other cars which does increase with revs which will come through the speakers but more of the high pitched noise you sometimes get when electronic equipment is switched on.Perhaps it's one of the heater servo's controlling the heater valve or flaps. This could only happen though if there is a shortcut (switch/connectors) somewhere. Important check do you hear the noise when the engine is not running, but you have the contact on 'start'. (LEDs on dashboard on)? If it's only happening with a running engine I agree with the other comments on a radio/wiring problem. Do you have a separate amplifier (in the back)? If yes connection to head unit (shielded/earth) is critical.
Good luck,

Its not the fuel pump is it?? I get a constant hum from the pump... which sounds like a n electronic whine..
It IS the fuel pump. The noise is being amplified and coming through the speakers mounted in the rear bulkhead. I'll trace the speaker wires and shield them. Thanks for all your suggestions.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
