Pressure Cap, expansion tank
Discussion
I need to replace my expansion tank pressure cap but I'm having a little trouble.
According to the Bible, the cap's from a mark 2 VW Golf. Sure, I'll go with that: I successfully bought one from a VW dealer a couple of years back. However, when I ordered a new one - from the same dealer - the other day, I got something completely different, a much larger screw-in cap.
I assumed there'd been a mistake so I questioned them and watched as they went through the schematics on their computer. The closest thing I saw to the Chimaera's cap was for a mark 1 Golf.
So can I use the mark 1's cap? Is there anywhere else I can get the part - the VW garage in question isn't all that convenient for me? How come the mark 2's suddenly using a different part?
Thanks guys

That because they have given you a late MK2 cap,you want the earlier golf MK1/2,polo MK1/2 late seveties on,Audi 80 early eighties on,Passat late seventies on to approx 88/89,good luck.According to the Bible, the cap's from a mark 2 VW Golf. If you're experiencing unusual / unexpected cooling problems (i.e. your gauge is reading high, or is not responsive, but you don't appear to have leaks, there's no air trapped in the system, etc etc), you might like to try changing your pressure cap. That's why I've just changed mine. I had strange cooling problems a couple of years back which vanished when I changed my cap. The new cap seems to have done the trick this time, too.
Also, I can confirm that 443 121 321 definitely is the correct VW part number. I had no trouble at VW this time round. Thanks Ribol.
You can get a replacement cap here: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?product...
True, it's not a genuine VW part - though, I suppose, Febi may be responsible for manufacturing VW's caps - but since my fancy VW cap has just failed after only a few months use, I can't do much worse.
