Hmmm, my biggest concern now is whether the exhaust Y-piece can be re-welded - if that needs to be replaced altogether, I imagine it will have a fair impact on the total bill. Apart from that, Wijnand at Nimag found nowt so far that we didn't know already - brake pads all round need replacing (splashed out on a set of Ferodo DS2500), discs aren't too fantastic either (Tower View Racing haven't got back at me so far regarding the 283 mm disc upgrade for the fronts with a plain disc rather than grooved/drilled - actually I'd only need the calliper brackets as the larger discs are a standard Frod item, but I felt it would be a bit cheeky to ask for the brackets alone...), rear ARB droplinks are loose and mount needs to be re-welded (got some proper droplinks from Steve Heath) and several wishbone bushings have gone (to be replaced with Powerflex items - pairwise and symmetrically of course!). For the rest, it's proven a fairly standard engine removal/reinstall job with few setbacks so I should be OK on that count.

As I have fairly recent receipts with the car for just about anything else, it should last me a long time after it's done! biggrin

Eric, what is the colour? On the photo it looks orange.

Nah, it's solid Fire Engine Red... (TVR calls it Monza Red or Italian Red depending on which database one consults, forgot the colour code but it seems to have been a default colour for very early Chims next to Cureton Green - TVRs K-plate 4.3 demonstrator was the same colour as mine).

Looks a very nationalistic Orange to me Eric wink I certainly see a planned colour scheme emerging (don't recall orange rockers any where else) hehe

You really want to trim that stat-swirl hose & make sure you can get it on/off to pull stat housing without having to remove the swirl tank.

You have still got the coolant/heating thru the throttle body - most of us have it bypassed.

Better to have the pre-cats out as a rule?

It seems pretty common that the y-pieces need welding up on the seams, seen quite a few.

They're very definitely Fire Engine Red, too (as is the sump, as you can see)...

The engine builder tells me not to pull the cats as he's taken account of the backpressure of the OE setup when doing the head work. Fortunately the cores look to be in good shape anyway.

According to the accompanying paperwork, the Y-piece has been welded fairly recently before... guess we have to wait and see...

Cheers,
Eric

Ah, here I am again replying to my own thread... rolleyes Y'see, the silicone elbow I used for replacing the AMM-TB hose was a freebie from the racing outfit who look after the Saab and bought a skipload of silicone hoses for a song at some point (and yes, it was a bit of a pain getting it on at the TB end which is a bit bigger than the 70 mm ID of the connection at the plenum... I cut it down from a 135 degree elbow too, as none of the 90 degree ones would be long enough to fit - added bonus was the bend on this one has a larger radius than the 90 degree elbows, and yes I'm disgressing again)... to the point, because of the shiny blue silicone elbow on the other end the front valance - AMM hose looks definitely scruffy, and having smooth-walled silicone there couldn't hurt I guess. I thought I might pop in at aforementioned racing outfit and see if I can score a metre of silicone tubing - would that be 70 mm ID, or 76 or 80 perhaps? The car is still at Nimag so I can't go and take a vernier calliper to it. I suppose I'd have to zip tie a piece of heat-resistant mat around the tube where it goes past the exhaust manifold, too?

Can't tell you much about it, as it came with the car and the one time I'd taken it out of the boot myself to see what it was like I couldn't find any labels or markings... will check again when I've got the car back... although that could be a while still... sorry.

Hi Eric,

What's the story with the heat mat over the AFM ? Is this standard on some cars or a mod you have made to overcome an issue ?

Good luck with the work BTW !

The AMM was wrapped with heat shield mat when I bought the car. I suspect it's there for a reason (there's no mention of it on the extensive dealer service history (Brundle. TVR Centre, TMS) of the last six years or so before I bought it, although it's been in for a bad running diagnosis once or twice) and the stuff doesn't look too nice and shiny - but I'm sure it can't hurt - if anything I might wrap the intake tube from the front to the AMM too, as it runs rather closely to the offside exhaust manifold...
