Been told there is a Company fitting LS engines 400+BHP into Chims, its a supposed well known TVR garage.

Anybody know who they are and how much it will cost

Thanks

Sportmotive had a piece in Sprint this month announcing that they will be supplying and fitting engines and gearboxes from early 2008. DIY kits or full installations

Thanks,

do you know what gearbox they are going to use.

IMHO this is a far better route to take rather than SC,turbos,rover5.4engines etc.
Hope it works out for Sportmotive, just surprised no other TVR garage has offered this before now.

The piece didn't mention the gearbox.
The LS2 is a Chevrolet engine, 6litre, 400bhp all alloy, small block V8 as fitted to the Corvette and GTO.

To be honest there was a post about this a while back maybe in the major mods? we looked into offering this and a lot of people are really keen untill you mention the £15000 price tag and that kinda puts them off a wee bit!!, and before i get all the you can do it way cheaper than that, a garage just cant.

15kyikes

why not just detune it to about 360/380BHP and use the T5 box.

that would keep prices down, If its going to cost more than 7k all in sportmotive have no chance.

Where does the 7k come from? Is that how much you would want to pay?

I wish, I just cannot see joe bloggs paying more than that.

I was under the impression sportmotive had done some great business and got a top deal for the parts needed.

If not I can't see it selling in big numbers.

The reality is the big word WARRANTY!! and if a garage is doing it for you they have to offer this, now bearing this in mind we would have to supply a brand new engine, buying a second hand one and rebuilding it would cost more, a tko gearbox or something similar again new, prop, new exhaust system, clutch, water pipes to be spiecially made not just pipes put together with jubilee clips, somekind of management system omex etc......
7K you have got to be kidding me, you would bearly do it for that if you bought everthing yourself and it was all secondhand, and you fitted it all.

Joe Bloggs wont be getting one then. I think you'd struggle to get a Rover 5 litre for £7k, I'm sure Rob could confirm/deny

I looked into this years ago and was very enthusiastic about it as were a number of people on the BB but as Rob says, it can't be done on the cheap if using new parts and there's no way I'd offer a conversion using a used engine unless the customer had supplied it. Then there would be all sorts of little things to change as none of these engines are a true drop in unit.

£7k will never happen. Best price I came up was something around £12k when Jellison was contemplating his conversion and back then there were still a few unknowns, since sorted. An ls transplant has to be seen as a long term commitment. The initial investment is high.

Maybe, but thats only going to give you 280bhp tops?

I spoke to John Eales a few weeks back, enquiring about a 350bhp 5.2 lump. It was a five figure sum, plus rebuilds every 50'000 or so miles.

I really cant see a reliable, accurate alternative to the LS / TKO600 conversion.

Yes the price is high, but for that sort of money you are getting a reliable powerplant, (that really does make the numbers), and box, capable of 100'000 with ease.

Does anyone have a link to that stateside outfit that can supply low mileage LS's? Some sort of breakers yard I think?
I agree, I just can't see many owners paying that sort of money so cannot see it taking off.
The Conversion will be worth more than the car, can Chim/Griff owners afford that. I don't think so.

As someone with a John Eales 5.2 V8 (albeit now supercharged to 525 bhp) powered Wedge and an LS1 in a Cerbera....

There is no cheap way of getting to 350-400 bhp. Sure the LS1 engine is cheaper but the final cost is more than getting a John Eales special that drops into place. In one case, the engines is cheaper but the fitting work is extensive and the list of bits needed to be modified or replaced is very large indeed. With the other, is the engine is more expensive but fitting is a doddle.

You pays your money and takes your choice...

Just give Mike a shedload of cash & he'll stick a turbo on your car! Initially run low boost with no mods, and upgrade later if you want to go absolutely mental.
