Word to the wise- call your insurance company first and you may find that they'll cover the cost of a window replacement, including the rear one. You may be liable for only the first £50.

Many insurance companies have this feature as standard but I don't know if they bump up the premium at renewal timesmile

I can't see how any insurance company would shell out for something that is, at the end of the day, reasonable wear and tear on what is, even the youngest Chimaera, a 6 year-old car and in my case a 10 year-old car. Indeed, I don't think I would personally have the cheek to ask.

For the record, the £260 inc VAT sounds about right. My local TVR dealer said that, off the top of their heads, it would be "around two or three hundred pounds" depending on whether you go for a standard screen or the slightly more expensive material that resists scratching more but is slightly stiffer (which is obviously an issue when putting the hood down).

Fair enough Jon but when I switched insurance companies a couple of years ago, the new company confirmed this.

I've not tried this form of claim to be honest- thus my comment about them catching you at renewal time.

Hey, I'm more than happy to be wrong on this. smile

It just seems to fly in the face of the current insurance ethos of maximum price, minimum service.

If one can get a £300-odd screen done for £50 with no loss of NCB on insurance then obviously I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. It just seems, on the face of it, not something you would assume would be available.

If your going to pay that much for just a rear screen, you might as well put a new roof on. Its not that much more.

I claimed on my insurance two months ago (direct line), and they paid for the rear screen minus my £60 excess. No hassle, no ncb affected. Total cost £240. I would definately ask!!!!
