OK Guys,
Saw a reference to this as a reply from Mr.Mod-Wise (name escapes me....its an age thing!)

Basically, can this be done? Are there issues with temperature putting them in a glass fibre shell?
Can the loom handle the change?

My car is a late '98 450.

I've seen conversion kits by an Alfa specialist for H7 lights (I think).

I'd like to hear opinions.
Thanks, Nick

Big Al.

I’ve got them fitted to dipped beams in the Tuscan never had a problem heat wise, and the good thing is you can actually see to drive at night! hehe

Fernies fitted mine when I bought the car top job.

I've just fitted HID's to the Griff and they work brilliantly, needed some adjusting by an indie to get them aligned properly though.

OK, thanks for the quick replies.

How did you get the 'kits'? Did Fernies buy & install, or did you source the parts yourself - and if so where?

I've seen an advert in Classic & Sports Car for upgrade kits for existing lights - about £300 . Just wondering how suitable these are?

I had an H4 HID bulb (main and dipped) kit fitted to my GTO last week. It was a no-brand kit I got for £120 off a GTOUK member. It takes no more total current than normal bulbs so there are (have been, so far) no over-heating probs. The wiring wasn't straightforward to fit neatly but the results were worth it; especially awesome main beam.

Its prob on the Griff forum, but there is a thread a where a few of us fitted a cheap kit available on e-bay for @£42 which seem fine. (apart from fester whining that its not made in Germany and the instructions confused him - but he was happy with product & pricehehe)

I wouldn't have done it with the std. big light reflectors, unless they were replaced with a headlamp unit suitable for HID, but I have twin Hellas like the later cars so it wasn't an issue for me. Legally I see little difference in fitting HID or 100/80W bulbs and would not condemn anyone for 'bending' the law :canofworms: I'm personally not convinced about using HID in an H4 (main/dip) bulb arrangement anyway, but never looked deeply at the options in having to do this wink

Just tell your insurance co as they are still illegal, no other way to tell it. Iam not saying i would not fit them, just would want it in writing that iam covered.

I did that. They checked; no increase in premium. They just sent me a form to fill in and return (s.a.e.) so they had it in writing.

IIRC TVR did offer them on some later models ( tuscan etc) as an option, I don't remember them having washers or self leveling, how was that allowed if illegal?

OK David,
Looks like I'll go down the route of fitting one of your headlight kits. I do want to retain the original look of the car.

Whereabouts in Wilts are you? - We were in Mere visiting friends over the week-end.
