Hi all,
Am I right in thinking that the heated mirrors are turned on by pressing the heater speed switch in (i.e. turning the blower on). Is this a latching circuit, i.e can you immediately turn off the blower (to let the engine warm up faster) and the mirror heaters will stay on ?

They don't seem to work any more, so what are the most likely candidates for failure? Relay, control module ?

Cheers,
Matthew

Early ones come on on a timer when the ign is first turned on, but they are switched off if you open a door. They are controlled by a timer relay in the aux panel under the dash and the courtesy light timer relay in the fusebox.

The later cars with more advanced electrickery ??????

ETA: Oh & if you've had mirror glass replaced they are next to useless wink

The heated mirrors are in the same circuit as the ciggy lighter which seems to have a predeliction to blow fuses on a regular basis so check that first. My '99 400 turns the heating element on when the ign is turned on.

Well, mine's a '97 Chimaera, some parts are facelifted (door opening buttons undermirrors and front bodywork) but others (rear lights) are not, so who knows which system I have.
The mirror heaters did come on once a few years back and they were great, they started steaming in fact and the ice disappeared real quick. No joy since though. Have checked fuse. Any other likely weak spots. I know there is a problem with the wiring through the driver's door hinge area as the speaker is a bit dodgy but that would only affect one mirror not both, right ?
