Ok you cant see the full extent of the damage ( chassis) but there doesnt seem to be a mayjor amount of body damage, More cracked top to bottom than the usual complete shatter disintergrate.
A shame that they are coming to this now the prices are low

The problem is that repairs simply cost so much more to do than on "normal" cars.
Added to that the salvage value will be relatively high. Not an ideal situation for owners or future insurance premiums.
What sort of damage would it take to write this one off?

It looks like the whole boot section has been damaged. If you look at the first shot there is a crack down the arch on the NSR, the crack in the boot line below the bumper trim and the damage behind the door on the OS. I would guess that the NS door area is damaged too as the door appears to gaffer taped shut. Probably Cat C, if things like the fuel tank or rear chassis/suspension are damaged it certainly will be.
To professionally repair the car you're probably looking £2 to 3k for a car that's probably worth only worth £7k tops give its "history". Sadly that's economics for you.

The spares have to come from somewhere, how else would alot of our cars stay on the road
If there are more cars out there on the road then there will always be parts suppliers because they can make money at it.
If loads get written off that will leave fewer customers for parts and suppliers will stop producing parts because it isn't worth their while.
That will be the end of these cars

Having said all that, if you decide to break yours I might be interested in a spare diff
