Now I know a noisy exhaust isn't usually something we would worry about but mine has staretd to make some disturbing sounds in the last two days.

This is only occasional and doesn't seem to depend on a hot or cold engine.

Imagine slowing normally and the usual burble/pop/crackle overrun noise, well this sounds about 10 times louder with the added effect that the exhaust sounds as if it is dropping off or dragging along the road (which it isn't). In addition to slowing this has happened a couple of times while negotiation small roundabouts and turning quite hard but not sure if the turning had anything to do with it or just slowing into the roundabout. Once back on the gas it goes away and the exhaust noise is back to normal.
This seemed to start up after a loud bang from the fuel tank yesterday (contraction/expansion but we already know this happens from time to time) so I suspected an air lock. However, I have refilled between the days and covered a few miles but the problem is still there.

Any Ideas ?

sounds like a vibrationbounce is making the noise, cheak nothing is loose, i had one a few months ago, to find it i had to ramp it up and shake thesmash exhaust to see what was happening. soon fixed it.

I would check near side front where the exhaust bolts to the engine and then the down pipe.
The engine to exhaust mounting bolt may have dropped off and put the exhaust weight onto the exhaust joint C clamp at the front near side and the joint may have opened up.
The fact that it stops when you put your foot down may be down to the movement of the engine in relation to the exhaust joint.
Either way I would get under and have a good look round as the full system falling off may be just a tad embarrassing as well as expensive.eek
Cheers
Paul.

Check engine mountings,as when they collapse the exhaust manifolds hang on the chassis(close standard anyway)just under the precat area(worth a try)just check with a small mirror tilted underneath said area, also check for contact marks, ask Spend if you can borrow his vanity mirrorlaugh
