Chimaera 400 Clutch Purchase Advice Required Please
Discussion
All,
I need to purchase a clutch for my 400 Chimaera asap after the break, I will be fitting myself.
There seems to be huge price variations on the net for example EBC (3 piece) circa £100, C Trevor or TVR CarParts (3 piece) circa £320?? The vatiation is huge.
I want to fit a good strong one that does not need replacing because it is not up to a good standard, I want a top quality direct replacement heavy duty if required but I do not want to redrill the flywheel, I have read about these ones.
I do not mind speding the money for the right item.
Any suggestions/advice would be welcome.
Many thanks.

You need to speak to RPI Engineering, they do an uprated clutch at a bargain price.

As Mr Denton said, RPI is the place to start.
The 400 clutch is a lesser version of the 500 so if your upgrading the engine in the forseable
future or like leaving number 11's every second set of lights fit the 500 clutch.
If your fitting it yourself try and get the car as high as you can off the ground or better still on a lift.
Its fairly straight forward once you get the remote linkage off the box.
I managed it on the drive but it was a bit of a bar steward.
Cheers
Paul.

Just fit a range rover clutch
If it would suit a 4WD 2 tonne car with 200Bhp then it'll be fine in 2wd car 1 tonne car with 220Bhp

RR clutch won't fit - its a 10.5 inch diameter clutch with the wrong spline for the 2wd gearbox. If it would suit a 4WD 2 tonne car with 200Bhp then it'll be fine in 2wd car 1 tonne car with 220Bhp

You need a Rover SD1 or equivalent clutch - 9.5 inch diameter with appropriate cover plate and release bearing.
Here's one I prepared earlier - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Pity the RR clutch doesn't fit you're right it would be far better with a bigger clutch.

Andy,
I replaced with an AP components: pressure plate, friction plate and bearing (mine is a T5 and had the steel sleeve already fitted so saved £80). Plus fitted gearbox mounts, pivot/swing arm, pivot, ball, plastic clip, slave cylinder, rear crank and crucifix seals. All supplied by Leven Technology who were excellent and I fited it myself.
Also fitted sump gasket, whilst in Rome and all that
