Can I second Don's question? I've started but have just used the main chassis rails for safety. Also is there a problem in lifting one corner of the car too high i.e. could it twist anything? (dumbass question #2?).

Many start jacking on the outriggers, I prefer the main chassis members. It is easier if you have 2 jacks so you can lift without twisting / tilting IMHO. Blocks of wood or rubber ( 2cv tyres cut up make great chassis buffers wink ) help protect the chassis from the jack saddle

Its quite common to need to drive onto some planks to get a trolley jack underneath to start with. I just extended this and cut a 'slope' into a stack of 8x2 to form a series of ramps. I find it a lot easier to work under the car with the wheels on ramps without the hindrance of jacks & axle stands.

But if you are using a jack or pair of jacks, always use axle stands for safety. Jacks can and do fail.

And cars get knocked off axle stands (clarkson did it when they built a caterham on Top Gear) I use both jack and axle stands and still hate being underneth.
