HELP with cassiss number...........
Discussion
I bought in november a Chimaera 5,0 HC in England. On my birthday (28-dec) I imported the car at the dutch DVLA. On the registration certificate the chassis number is:SDLDCC5P45Aabcxyz. On the chassis the number is: SDLDCC5P4SAabcxyz. The difference is an 5 or S in the middle. Both chassis numbers are known at the english DVLA with another number plate. It all makes sense because the car was imported to Ireland and was given an new number plate, but they problably made an error in the administration. Now the dutch DVLA asked the police to make an inquery. They think there can be two cars exported from England, and I am an criminal!
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME WITH THE CHASSIS NUMBERS OF CHIMAERA MADE BY TVR. IS THERE A DATABASE WITH CHASSIS NUMBERS? OR DO YOU HAVE AN OTHER ADVICE?
Who can help me out and make my birthday present come throught.

The S is an error, 45 will be the code for the engine size, check the threads which explain how to decipher the chassis numbers.

True Dave, but the OP said he bought the car as 5,0Dave
Assuming he thinks it's a 500 there must be a reason for him thinking that.
If the car is badged up as a 500, or was sold as a 500 then there's something fishy.
Whats the engine number on the block?
You once taught me that the last four digits of the chassis number is often painted on panels.
OP check the numbers on the panels match.
Sorry, it doesn't seem the search goes back far enough!!! Getting head back together a bit now tho...
Luckily I kept a note of this, apologies for not crediting the Original poster
SDL - TVR
D - drophead
CC - Chimaera Chariot
5 - 5 litre
P - Petrol
4 - random?
S - 2000
A - January
abc - random ?
xyz - xyzth TVR chassis of that build year
Which seems to confirm it should be an S not a 5. TVR, if still in existence, would have been able to rectify this, I'm not sure if you will be able to get the authorities to confirm their error. You could point out that the S is normally a alphabetic code for the year - which I assume is a standard VIN number, so a numeral in this position would be invalid?
and as Andy mentions you will prob see the number cxyz hand written on the inside of all your panels.

First 3 letters are for TVR
D = drophead
Next 2 characters are type - ie CC Convertible Chariot
Next number is model - ie 4 = 400
P = petrol
Next number is random security number
Next letter is the build year (A=1980 B = 1981 and so on - i is not used) - build years started in September for the October Motorshow apparently - so you can have a 1990 registered car on a 1991 build year.
Next letter is the build month (A=Jan B=Feb and so on - i is not used)
Next 3 numbers are believed to be standard/random of no significance..
Final 3 numbers shows the car number - ie 14th car built from the 1991 build year.
So SDLDCC5P4SAabcxyz by my quick reckoning decodes to:D = drophead

explanation of chassis number
I don't believe this is at all reliable as none of the salient bits fit my chassis number. Mine does begin SDL and I know the internal build reference marked on various interior bits is the last FOUR digits of the chassis number, but none of the rest of the number looks anything like the code. That's for a Blackpool car built in mid-1999.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
