Any Ideas ? I have a 1998 Chimaera and the drivers side door switch doesn't work, passenger side fine, and I can open from using the inside knob. When I press the button I hear a click under the dashboard on the passenger side, which is above the main fuse panel, so I presuming it may be a relay or something. I have read through the bible and cant find anything obvious.

Has anybody had this probelm before or got any ideas. Otherwise I will take it down toi Austec. Thanks

Sounds like one of the door solenoids is playing up, easily available from Maplins and a doddle to fit, to be on the safe side replace both actuators they will cost you less than twenty quid. Do a search and the part numbers will come up.

yes Had exactly the same problem on my 1998 Chim over this Christmas !! - see my link a only few days back (24.12.07)on this forum at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... The knob works because it is not electronic, it pulls a cable to release the door. The click is the relay trying to activate the actuator (solenoid). Change this from Maplins stock and job sorted!byebye

Thanks, got a multimeter on the cables and you both seem to be right as current passes when button depressed, Ihave ordered parts from Maplins and I am waiting delivery. Do I need to under the 3 allen keys by the door lock to release the mechanism to access the retaining screw? Only had a quick look, but seems straightforward.

Thanks for the advise

boxedinThere is not much room in the side access panel, behind the driver's seat, to get to the two screws that hold the actuator on it's mounting plate. I found it much easier to release the three bolts that hold the door striker plate in the door's aperture, and lower the mounting plate into the car through the lift up panel in the car's interior side trim. Then the two screws can be quickly tackled to release the actuator and the item swapped for the Maplins one. I also found that the connectors on this replacement slipped snuggly into the multi-connector on the TVR harness, thus avoiding making up new connections. Takes about 20 minutes!cool
