What can go wrong when you remove the plenum off the top of the engine. i need to get better access to the engine as I'm giving a spring clean and a lick of paint where needed.
Cheers

Not a lot I don't think, just disconnect the stepper motor, undo the allen bolts (they can require a bit of persuading), and disconnect the induction pipe. Taking off the throttle assembly is useful as well if you need even better access but its not essential if you're just going to move the plenum aside.

Be absolutely paranoid about dropping anything into the trumpets while the top is off. It would be easy to miss something dropping in, an absolute PITA to remove anything if you *did* notice it, and if you don't notice it then you stand a very good chance of lunching the engine when you go to start it.

So, don't wave anything around over the top of the engine, mask off the trumpets as soon as practical, and be very careful not to take any risk of nuts / washers / sockets / bits of dirt falling in while you're working.

When you come to reassemble, you should use a non-setting sealant around the bottom of the plenum (I would suggest Hylomar Blue but you may have your own favorite) and be careful not to over torque the bolts because the trumpet base is only aluminium and it's easy to strip the threads.

Obviously you will need to disconnect various hoses and obviously you will want to carefully record which one went where. If this is your first time, a dozen photos taken from all angles can be very useful when you come to put it all back together.

No problem coming off and has made things much more interesting. I'm now in the process of stripping down the parts that can be sprayed up and things are looking miles better. It also allows me to fix an annoying leak on the bottom of the power steering pump. Its taking forever mind.
I'll be posting a few pickies very soon of the progress. lots of pictures taken already so it goes back the same way. Red rockers with chrome effect Plenum, with 8.5mm magnecor HT leads in red along with red silicone hoses. Should look the dogs!!!

Hi Sapper
I'm just painting the plenum but it looks quite effective. I've just started a new heading under "Engine Project" which shows the engine as its done up. Might give others ideas what to do with theirs. Theres not that many pictures out there that show anything any different to what everyone else seems to be doing.
I'm only painting the Plenum as I'll be getting the ACT induction fitted pretty soon.

Polish away by all means (and the plenum will take a bit of doing) but I'd avoid chroming anything ally like the plague, especially anything ally that gets hot. Different coefficients of expansion and the chrome will crack, bubble and drop off eventually
