Just in the process of giving the engine a good going over but unsure how you add pictures on this site. Once I find out i'll post how I'm getting on. Very pleased with the progress so far because the engine had become an eyesore as it was sat for a while. Its taking time but should be done in the next couple of weeks then shes back on the road again.
Cant wait to feel that fantastic V8 throwing me around again. bounce The straight six is a beast in S spec but ya never forget that V8 torque and sound.driving

Day one.
That don't look good!!!! Time to get my hands dirty. First thought was to paint the plenum and give a clean with degreaser. Outcome? Still looked crap so off with the plenum.

Chrome effect looks good till I get the ACT carbon induction system.

Off with the rockers. Somehow managed to get them off with a standard 8mm socket and a hammer. Its now specific to the Rocker bolts. Why did TVR ever go for Purple!!!

Rubbed down

Sprayed in a mild RED!!!! Not a bad finish though. feels a million dollars

Goes quite well with the slightly cleaner head and block.

Crikey - what a transformation!

Could you elaborate on how you did it and what products/techniques you used?

That does look fantastic, and a relatively easy job. Must get round to it sometime!

it looks great, not knowing about engines ( read into that, absolutely nothing), how precisely do you go about this and how much can be done in situ.
also is it me or is the wrong rocker cover on in the last photo, i thought that the near side rocker had a thing on it for pouring that stuff in that you get from mobil?

You're quite right and well observed. I could'nt wait to see what it looked like and its a tighter squeeze on the other side.
I'll do a short write up on what I had to do but its relatively simple and costs are minimal. The main costs will be the HT leads and Hoses which I will be getting in the next few days.

Work carried out so far:-
Engine cleaner sprayed on engine and wire brush used to loosen dirt. Jet washed down to remove cleaner.
Plenum cleaned up with small wire brush in drill and painted with Chrome effect Plast-cote spray paint.
Plenum then taken off and trumpets all covered with cloth.
Lots of pictures taken from all angles to make sure i remember where everything goes.
All pipes taken off and cleaned down with degreaser
Distributor removed and marks made on bottom of dizzy and block and where the rotar arm is pointing to make sure it goes back the same. (Made that mistake before) wobbleHole blocked up.
Expansion tank removed.(A real PITA)
Alternator take off along with belt tensioner and belt (to be renewed)
Remainder of visible engine wire brushed down with degreaser and washed down again. All grease and dirt removed.(it gets everywhere)
Rocker covers removed and head masked off. 8mm star bolts to be removed.
Rockers wire brushed and rubbed down with 3 grade of paper, 60, 80, & 120.
Upto 15 very fine coats of Wilkos Multi Surface Enamel paint with a very fine paper rub after 3 coats.
When dry the recessed parts on the top where painted with Chrome effect Plast-cote brush paint. Will laquer with very high temperature paint in a few days to enable a solid finish.
Engine block and heads painted with 2 coats of Hammerite Smooth Silver then laquered with 2 coats of High Temperature paint.
Next job is to take off the plastic casings that encase the wiring and replace with black heat shrink. Gonna be a bit of a job but will be worth it as standard looks like spaggeti and is untidy. Will also look to re-route the wiring to tidy up.
This has taken me approx 25 hours so far and costs have been minimal, except for the fact my girlfriend has forgotten what i look like. Will be worth it thoughthumbup

Solid. Its just got the usual surface rust in patches and peeling paint but no point where its eaten through. Before the bits are bolted back onto the frame I'll be rubbing down and re treating with a good paint. Will also be doing from the wheel inwards and then work back from there. Anyone have preference to which paint should be used. Was thinking of por15 but I'd like it to be in white again. I have another chasis frame from a Chimeara and was going to refurb that and see if theres any interest.

Spent a couple hours last night sorting out one side of the engines wiring and just need to fix down and insulate the odd part. Took the old insulation off and used heat shrink to keep tidy. Quite easy once ya get used to it and all the old glues taken off the wire.

Nearly done

Nick,
Looking good so far. But just a point about the wiring. Try not to cut any cables if you can to get your heat shrink on. Try and remove the pins from the connectors and then fit heat shrink rather than cut the cables and re crimp. The more joints you have in any loom the more unreliable a wiring loom will be. I would use a good quality RTV sealant on all the crimps to keep water out of the cables and so avoid water creeping down them and causing corrosion.
Just a thought.
Cheers
Paul.
Nice pics of your Tuscan by the way.cool

10 quid for all red hoses. Experimented with one and it holds up pretty well, theres no cracking even if you bend the hose double. Gave the hose a good clean with celulose thinners and painted in red rubber paint from Halfords.
The hoses are in good condition so thought I'd see if it did the job. Only time will tell.

And the pair of Rockers.

Now starting on the chasis.

The detailing work looks nicely done, but I hate the way you've chopped the wiring about. It shouldn't have been necessary to cut the wires to re-loom them, even if you've putting a sleeve over the top. If you *do* have to cut the terminals off for some reason you should have refitted new terminals. Splicing the wires is horrid, and doing it with those nasty crimp connectors is doubly horrid. Having those nasty things in the engine bay IMO outweighs any cosmetic benefits you might have gained from relooming the engine bay wiring, and (more importantly) introduces extra potential (sorry!) electrical problems. Most of the work you've done looks excellent, but this part imo is letting the side down.
