Ok, so the new TIV has some gauge probs..I can cope with, but now the ignition barrell seems to be stuck. When I put the key in it won't turn..at all.. anyone got any ideas. Tried the old wiggle of the wheel, then the steering lock came on..kept trying and nothing.. no movement at all...Can't even get it to a garage now.. Boll*cked.
could it be a bent key?

May be a stupid point - but you've not been "surprised" by discovering it has a steering lock!
I didn't expect the car to have it - then I found it one day!

No, I know it has one of them.. It didn't turn even before the steering lock came on.

Well look down the key to see if it is bent or compare it with a straight edge. It could be the ignition barrel is broken and you need a new one.

Might be worth taking the covers off and looking to see if anything has come undone or loose and stopping the lock from moving.

You in the AA/RAC? Call them out to have a look, they might be able to perform some magic. After all - it's a Vauxhall Cavalier column/stalk/barrel assembly, maybe there is a known problem in their DB and they'll know a way around it.

Yours hopefully ...

How far round the steering lock do you have to go to get the steering lock on, never had any success in mine, 1996 Chim 500.

Any one know why I'd need to get a replacement from TVR. Not just go out and get my own Vauxhall unit.

Good point.. But I still have the key for the doors and boot. Just doesn't start the car.. Don't bother me have two keys on my ring..oo er...
And yes have tried oiling it. Managed to hot wire it last night and get it going, but the steering lock is still on..so I can drive it..but only in circles.. better than nothing I spose.
Ok, going to get a Vauxhall barrell and key then. Anyone ever tried to take the original barrell out?

What car have you got Tom?

I have changed ign. barells on other cars but not recently or this particular variant. It shouldn't be too difficult IMHO.

Good luck - let us know the outcome.
