Ignition coil on a 2001 Chimaera 4.5
Discussion
Hello, the RAC put a new ignition coil on for me, only details are part number GCL217. They didnt know if it was the right part, anyone got any idea? It seems to be running fine with it. How coult I tell if it was the wrong part, would it just overheat and fail?
The car failed to start one morning, I took the wifes car and the RAC came out to visit mine. After a long investigation they identified the problem as the ignition coil which he replaced. He was unable to confirm from anywhere whether or not it was the correct part he fitted.
A word of warning... I was not there so did not oversee his work. He decided to close the bonnet with a good slam as the broken bonnet latch pin shows me. I don't think I can prove it was the RAC so have had to take the repair on the chin
. I will not let the RAC work on my car again without me present. I will count myself lucky he didn't need to get into the boot aswell!

The cheapo Turkish coils were painted black with COL 220 in white printed on them in small characters. The bosch PRC#### is plain ally finish.
I dont know about the GCL 217 tho. IMHO if the coil is inadwequate this is likely to show up as a high rev misfire and or loss of power under load if the spark voltages are poor. I think its unlikely to cook.
