Well, I have to say, I'm pretty fed up of the search now. I just can't seem to find a good car for the right money that isn't a million miles away. I've been looking for some time now (and spent loads of time looking for a 911 before this too with no joy) and cannot find a car within range that isn't up for silly money.

If anyone has one (or is thinking of selling) please let me know. Requirements are as follows :

Pref a 450, but will consider a good 4 of course
Must be facelift
No green ones (sorry if that offends anyone, I just don't like green cars)
Mileage between 20k and 60k ish
Good history of course
Must be North of Birmingham, ideally North West but I will travel a bit for the right one.

Can anyone help before I get totally fed up and give up ?

Mike

That's funny - about a year ago I too was looking for exactly the same thing! And DEFINITELY no green ones. I didn't like green cars generally and admit to a little superstition!

Then along came a beautiful '98 450 with 27,00 miles supported by bills, service stamps & MOT's. It had full leather in Magnolia with a black leather top dash roll, original factory fitted air-conditioning, unmarked Estorils with new Toyos, Armourfend and a nice looking chassis.

In the past I've owned a 911, E-Type, DB4 Vantage and various others but can honestly say that this car has brought me as much, if not more, fun as any of those. It has never let me down and hasn't caused one moments regret or doubt. OH...did I mention it's Starmist GREEN??? smile The right one IS out there but maybe it's just worth at least going to see any green ones that look likely candidates but for the colour.

Nick.

It's a fair comment I guess Nick. Just out of interest what did you end up paying for yours ? (PM if you don't wanna post it)

Cheers,

Mike

That's funny - about 2 years ago I too was looking for exactly the same thing! And DEFINITELY no green ones. I didn't like green cars generally and admit to a little superstition!

Then along came a beautiful '98 450 with 29,00 miles supported by bills, service stamps & MOT's. It had full leather in Magnolia with a green leather top dash roll, heated seats, unmarked wheels with new Dunlops, and a nice looking chassis.

In the past I've owned various cars but can honestly say that this car has brought me as much, if not more, fun as any of those. It has only let me down once and hasn't caused one moments regret or doubt. PS, Now I wouldn't really consider one in any other colour - the green & magnolia looks so classically British that I've grown to love it!!

Please don't take this the wrong way but maybe the reason there only crap ones in your budget is that a good one should be more expensive than an equivalent shed. Can you not increase your budget in order to get a decent one?

I've been known to say on here back when I was researching and saving up for my Chimaera that I was not too keen on non-metallic red... guess what I have now... hehe

Not a day goes by without me regretting the sale frown. I'm now driving around in a very driveable, functional, reliable, all-weather, brilliantly-handling CTR....but need to get some love back in my life. The stories of folk wandering about in search of a Chimaera that's anywhere near good enough to buy, I find depressing. I'm not sure I could go through all that again...but then the sunny cool day today with dry roads made me come over all nostalgic especially as I drive past the new Mole Valley garage nearly every day and get a chance to rubber-neck at the TVRs on the forecourt. Anyway my therapist tells me that the future's much brighter and I should be off the anti-depressants soon.

It's going to be a long summer Nick... cool You know there's one out there with your name on it (and probably the No. '500' on the rear!). Come on back - you KNOW it makes sense!! yes

What's the problem with travelling? It really will limit your choice. I bought the first 450 I saw, off eBay and it's fair to say I 'stole' it: on a good day I'd still get back what I paid for it 25,000 miles and almost three years later. But I had to travel to Bedfordshire (from the North West, like you) to see it, then again to collect it. And I'm glad I did!

The other option is to use one of the agents that advertise in Sprint to find you one. I believe they can even sometimes negotiate the price to a level where it's still cheaper than you would have paid even after their fee.

If you were seriously interested, I have family in the North East, I could tie in a visit to them with a viewing somewhere near the A1. Im not in any hurry to sell so if you are in no hurry to buy then I was planning a trip up there in Feb some time.

Let me know if interested.
