Sorry for yet another problem post, i assure you im still in love with the car but still ironing out the nigglers.

I purchased myself a copy of the bible to help track down my previous leak problem post so i set to it with some silicone over the weekend but alas still got the leak so think i'll leave that to the dealer! only attempted it myself because i've got a long journey to make tommorow, and while it's cool for the americans to put jaccuzzi's in there cars i like to stay dry.

Anyway sorry rambling again my latest problem is i still have problems with my alarm based on suggestions on here I discovered that the little rubber circle thats responsible for pushing the passenger side door button thing was missing so I replaced this on saturday and for a time it seemed to solve the problem I could succesfully arm the alarm and all was joyous then this morning i turned the alarm on after the short drive to work and as soon as I pressed the button WHHHAAALLLLELELELLELLWLA, but then a new issue I couldnt disarm it to start with took about four goes and a minute before i managed to turn it off. And after managing to turn the alarm off now the doors won't open just a faint clicking noise.

I phoned the dealer who told me the secret method of gaining entry without the door buttons and i can still start the car with no problems so i took it for abit of a drive incase the problem was battery related but still no working doors.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so any things to look for?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Do you know if the alarm is a Meta, and have you got a warranty?

Assume it's not been soaked.

It may be packing up . . . alas

Presumably since you say that you've done some siliconing and still have a leak that you might have water-tested your handiwork - so it could be that you've drenched the siren assembly. Might be worth disconnecting it and drying it out, if that is the case.

What year is your Chim, and does it have factory alarm or afterfit? If it's a META I have discovered The Top Man in this field for TVR's (all the dealers use him).

It's a 98 so i was assuming it's a meta, i did think maybe the alarm's just wet but how has that affected the doors opening presumably the doors still think the alarms on?

TVR's had META std. fit from 1996 so it's probably one of those. Give Carl a ring on 07720-723407 and ask if he's heard of this effect before. Or at least he should be able to elliminate the alarm as the cause.

Good luck.

Think i may have found the problem just had a new stereo fitted and hadn't turned it on for a few days when i checked last night the stereo has no power either, im guessing that the stereo has blown the fuse which might be the same circuit as the central locking. Im going to check the fuses today and see if that solves the problem.

Strange one this as the bible doesn't seem to cover the fusebox layout I waded in and removed and checked each fuse one by one until I hit the alarm which started going off as soon as i pulled the fuse then faded in pitch/volume (im guessing that means the battery backup on the siren's screwed) but strangely after jamming the fuse back in and switching off the alarm with the keyfob the central locking and the stereo started working again without putting in a new fuse.
Now I can get in via the mirror buttons but im back to my original problem of the alarm going on as soon as I arm it, my guess now is that its something to do with the siren (from other posts) so im still going to have to take it back to the dealer

Thanks Again

My alarm siren recently failed in that it would "whooop" occasionally at random, went off when I armed the car but didn't go off when I disconnected it. I left it muttering to it'self wrapped in blankets in a bucket for a few days and it gradually stopped. Prognosis was a faulty siren, now replaced.
