My windscreen was replaced by a 'well known' company under my insurance policy due to a massive chunk of road coming through it.

I'm not happy with the job - after 3 months of the car being off the road having it's camshaft replaced and a top end rebuild it's clear they've done a *iss poor job. The seal has comeaway completely and the roof doesn't fit. What's more the material on the roof has been damanged in the 200 miles I've done since.

I've spoken to my broker and told them I wanted a dealer to do the repair (David Gerald).
The insurance company has refused and said that they won't look at it - that it's between me and the company that did the repair.

What do I do?

:-(

Ask David Gerald to detail what work needs to be done to repair the damage and resolve the failed installation. Then contact the company that did the work and ask them for the money needed to rectify the problem. If they refuse either to rectify the problem themselves or to pay for DG to did it, then you'll have to consider using the so-called small claims court procedure http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claim...

IMHO I would have thougt that as the Insurance company sent you to a "recommended" repairer that they have some sort of liability to help sort it out and not wash their hands of it.
You could try going to the windscreen company and telling them that the small claims court looms if they don't help, AFTER being VERY nice and asking how they can help first!

That's exactly how I feel. The actually refused to let me take it to a dealer in the first place and assured me (via the broker) that it wouldn't be a problem if things got messy. Being stupid I should have got it in writing :-( but one doesn't think of these things at the time.

I'm seeing the 'original' repairers tomorrow morning - they have refused to come and look at it which is a real pain in the *ss as I'm supposed to be working.

Sorry to drag up an old thread - but I'd like to give a big thumbs up to David Hendry (Malmesbury)
They took the car off me last monday - and sorted it 3 days later.

They said they weren't 100% happy with the job they'd done - but I'm the fussy b***er and I'm over the moon.

It's been back to the 'original' windscreen company 3 times and had 4 screens - each time I was told it was the car that was the problem (despite the screen and roof fitting perfectly before). David Hendry sorted it first time - no problem - they even arranged to bill the original windscreen company for me! I've experienced the best and worst that the dealers have had to offer - one dealer who shall remain nameless (for naming and shaming reasons) tried to convince me they'd have to get the body off to fix the problem - a problem that was ultimately a dropped door and wrong windscreen seal.

If you're getting your screen done - make sure they reuse your original seal if at all possible it'll save a load of grief.

If only. I've heard they palm it off with, "it's between you and the glass company" quite often.

Here's a stat for you: a well known windscreen company, up until last year, spent £1million re-working / rectifying / paying out for damage caused by their fitters.

It's laughable, 'approved'?? I think 'nominated' is more like it.
