Hello chaps, anyone got a pic of this installed on the cars ? just ordered a kit and wondering how easy is it to fit. And did it do anything for the performance ?

thanks for the replies

See the pic of my car below - it was a doddle to fit, and performance wise I can't say I noticed much of an improvement but the theory makes sense. It was worth it for me as the original hoover tube was splitting and in terrible shape.

you get better throttle response also the sound through k&n is a lot different from foam filter i think it gives a bit more bhp not sure how much but all these little mods add up

Hi,

Have recently fitted one, it will help you to have someone else assist you fit and clamp the pipe on both sides of the bulkhead, I fitted mine on my own and would uses a spare hand next time.

If nothing else it looks asthetically better than 'The Vacuum Pipe', the new pipe is easier to keep looking good too.

All the best.

Approx 5bhp so i read on these very forums, not sure if thats with the K&N though(doubt the K&N is worth anything over the Foam one except more dust)i have this mod but done so many other things at the same time cant comment on the above increasewinklooks much neater and my stock hose was tatty, allow about 30/40 minutes fitting and you may have to trim of some excess,Tim at ACT will advise you on that anyways.I may give mine to my brother and redo mine in Blue silicone hose to match my coolant hosesrolleyes

I've read that you get more bhp from a new/clean foam filter as opposed to the K&N...... however the foam filter soon clogs up and whilst the K&N doesn't giving reverse results.

Due to the position of the filter its awkward to change, and gets overlooked in servicing in some garages, so it makes sense to fit the K&N.

I assume the K&N filter resides behind the headlight somewhere. Does it get as good airflow as the original located foam filter?

Much better. As Hoover has said the foam filter clogs up very quickly and it often gets overlooked at servicing time. The K&N needs a clean at around 50k miles so is good for a long time. I noticed the car breathing much better and therefore a better throttle response. For the money the hose and filter are good value and look a lot better than the horrid hose.

well surprised to hear some people hadn't noticed a lot of difference. I have noticed a very noticable difference after fitting the kit...sharper throttle response and a much more noticable shove in the back accross the range...so more of a torque increase i imagine. Oh and a nicer induction noise when you are able to hear it above the exhaust! My engine is standard 4.3 pre cat and in good form; had it set up by mark adams and had his chip installed a year or so ago. So I reckon it depends on what state of tune the car is in to start with. Best to get the basics right before spending extra cash on improvements.

I just fitted a K&N. The Piper foam one I removed was about 2ft long! I am sure they are not that long in the photos I have seen.

Anyway it was fairly blocked at the front, rear not too bad. ACT kit next I think...

Yes, but your stock aircleaner was possibly cloggedwinkso even cleaning the aircleaner would make the motor breath easier.

Sounds like a decent investment. Might allow Mrs Dicanio to treat me to one for my birthday. Anyone know how much they are?

If you talk to Tim at ACT he can do you some heat shielding that fits over the hoses. If you have replaced the ECU then this can cover the whole inlet.
Keeping down the temperature of the air going into the engine as much as possible is worth the little extra.

now you have fitted the induction kit, will this not match up to the ecu chip.im going to fit a boost valve to balance the air fuel 87% 13%. your car is now running weak thats why you can not notice much difference in power

If his original filter was not blocked then i would imagine it would be difficult to notice an extra 5hp imho

Yep I have some sympathy for you it was a pain fitting mine too. One mistake I made was cutting the long pipe from filter to air flow meter thinking it was too long...and then realising that it needs to be quite low in the engine bay to ensure the hood closes properly which meant i had cut it too short! Fitting the filter is much easier if you take the take the shield off. Hope you manage to fit it all ok!
