Got the Chimaera in at the TVR Centre for a suspected head gasket. Well they've tested it today and water is definitely getting into the cylinders. They mentioned it might possibly be a cracked block!! I really hope not, would be more economical for me to buy a second hand 4.0 lump I'd of thought than repair that.

Regards,

1 Chimaera owner suffering from withdrawal symptoms

I wish! I'm raiding all of the emergency TVR fund to sort this out. I need to get me a money tree.......

I don't believe a crack block is "repairable" but if you mean "new block" then you should check out the new Cosworth ones that TVR Power have on their website for £999. They look good - I almost went for one until Dom gave mine a clean bill of health! That would probably be cheaper than an entirely new engine...

To be honest si I don't think the guy knew, but I'm thinking about dropping him an email about it. Maybe he should give me a 'goodwill' gesture to help with the costs? Who knows..

It's been fine up till now, no coolant loss, etc. It has been mentioned by the TVR centre that it could possibly be a porous block. I know this affected the 4.6 p38 Range Rovers but I didn't expect the 4.0 TVR lump to be affected like this. Still they won't know for sure till Monday when the heads are taken off. frown

I have noticed these and if the block is shagged I think I'll go for one.
