Chimaera bonnet hinge
Discussion
I have a very un-happy bonnet hinge. The nearside threaded bolt section that protrudes from the bonnet has become loose from the fiberglass following an unfortunate incident with a bird. Does anyone know how this part is normally secured? I have a friend who is very skilled with fiberglass but I am not happy about the prospect of drilling into the bonded fibreglass box section at the front of the bonnet without knowing what is behind, if anything!
I had a similar problem and was staggered to find that to replace the bonnet hinge box was about £15 for the part and £200 to bond into place. This was at a TVR dealers.
In the end I took it to a bodywork specialist who packed fibre compound into the loose section therefore tightening the connnection again. Cost no more than a few pounds and works a treat.

All above are correct, nothing in the box at all
The part you can buy has the bolts bonded to it and replacment will take hours, as the old section has to be cut away and a new section bonded in. Time consuming, expensive and the "proper" way to do it. But only consider this option if you're having a full bonnet respray, in that case it shouldn't add too much (£100ish+parts) to the price
However, they are only bolts bonded into the glass so a repair can be effected in situ
Depending on how bad it is you can also trim down the new part and only use a section of it, although that won't be much cheaper than replacing the whole thing
