Hi all,
My alternator has packed up so I need to get my boyfriend to replace it. As with most TVR bits we suspect that it comes from something else like a landrover or sd1, anybody know what it is for sure? Mine is a 93/L 4.0.
Many thanks, P.

If you say "Chim" in your plea you may get some advise. Unfortunately I don't know the answer - it may be in the bible though.

You sure it is the alternator and not the Fuse Link??

They can go and all the symptoms look like it is a dodgy alternator.

Ha! Glad to know I'm not the only one with the 'alternator touch'. The bearings went in my Chim alternator, and I had them replaced for £40. When I swapped the car for the Griff, the alternator went in that too () - a bit more serious but still got it rebuilt for £100.

IIRC it's a LandRover part - if you peer long enough, the part number is on the alternator. I'd still have a look at seeing if you can get it repaired. Getting it out is easy. What you do is ring Psychobert....... (letting myself down here, aren't I? )

It will be a Lucas or Bosch alternator that you could get form rover - but you are probably better off seeing what make it is and getting an exchanged unit from any motor part suppliers.

Make sure that is the problem though - as someone said there could be a few other faults that could fool you into thinking it was the alternator.

Intially, with the engine running measure the volts - it should be fairly constant between 13.7 and 14.2V Then switch on the lights and wipers and remeasure - it should remain the same as before (you may have to rev a little bit) - If its different - then its a good chance its the alternator - Do check all connections -the fuse somebody was on about is located on main front crossmember underneath the car - well it is on Ellejays

Hope thats all as clear as mud
