My rad has been leaking/weeping very slightly along the joints in the sides since I bought my car (400) about 2 years ago. It seems to be getting slightly worse so I think it's about time I changed it!

I have been looking for replacement one, and noticed that it looks identical to a land rover discovery EFI, apart from a couple of small 8mm hose unions on the top right near the vent plug, however these could easily be blanked off. Seen as you can get these rads new for about half the price of the tvr one, I'm temped to buy one... Has anyone else bought a similar one?

This link shows details of the rad:

Have just been down this road myself. It proved a bit confusing buying a new rad with all the different types out there. In the end I had mine re-cored for £130 and it looks/works as good as new. That might be an option.

I don't think that that rad would be good for a post facelift as it does not look like it has the mounting for the Otter switch.

The side brackets also are not correct. I own a 95 Discovery, which that claims to be the rad for, and the bottom hose connector exits at 45degs - I think you need to match them visually together unless you are a gambler. IIRC someone recently did this and had to panel beat the the bottom hose to fit. It will probably also have fitments for oil cooling which will detract from the overall water cooling.

IMHO it is far better to take your rad and have it recored, get the extra core or larger cores fitted whilst you are at it. You can also have bungs for otter switches built in, either by the hot side or the cooled side (my pref).

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately a re-core is not really an option as car is used daily so can't be off the road for the time this would take. (Unless I can get hold of another old rad for a re-core).

My car doesn't have the otter switch in the rad. I agree there seem to be quite a few variations - spend you are right there is a version with the bottom hose at 45 degrees. And that seeing the rad before buying would be a good idea! I though the side brackets looked correct - I'll have to check my car, was only going from memory.
