Has anyone fitted the mod-wise boot unlock kit to an early car with the key operated locks on the doors. Is there any reason why it won't work with this set up?

I really like the idea of this set - and its well priced too, but I am not electronically gifted and wondered if I could fit it myself. Can anyone tell me how easy it is?

I dont want to get an electrical mechanic to do as it wouldnt be worth the cost.

Tim, where did you fit the reed switch? did you have to cut a hole in the rear light to get it inside or did you cut the body to get behind the rear number plate?
Thanks in advance.

I fitted the reed switch, which is very sensitive,to the inside body work, at the top of and to the side of the light cluster, used Evostick held in place by sticky tape.A good tip is to put both the small magnets, which will polarise together, into the key fob as this increases the magnetic strength and operates the reed switch much easier.

I glued the reed switch to the back of the number plate (to protect the paintwork) works a treat. One snag I have found is that as a result of having the magnet in the alarm key fob, every time I take the keys out of my pocket I find 1p coins stuck to it !

Fitted to 95 Chimaera, did have to modify the micro switch mounting slightly to fit with my door lock, but no real problems.

I punched a hole in leather key fob and then fitted bigger magnet - works much easier.

Purchased the kit came the next day, excellent service. Easily fitted and working. Like you say it does work better with a bigger magnet and Dave is putting an extra one in the post.

Is it just an ordinary magnet? Is that very secure? I suppose it is as you have o have the doors unlocked first, yes? And you can hang your keys up on the fridge when you get home.

It's as secure as any car with a push button boot lock. Neither work when the car is locked.
