Hi guys and gals

Just bought a gear gaitor from Mr. Gaitor. I cannot seem to get my gear knob off to fit it? I did a search and it said it should just screw off (no jokes) but I've tried as hard as I can, and it won't budge, any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if my knob is standard (behave), but the bit below the round ball unscrews downwards (down the shaft), which in turn gives way to being able to access a couple of grubscrews which hold the knob itself onto the shaft.

Hope this helps.

Thanks L33, I'll give that a try later. Whilst on the subject, anyone know where I can get a replacement gear knob? The current one is dented.

My Chim is a 98 model. Knob looks like this...

There's a tiny little screw you can put a tiny Allen Key into. You undo it...

...and it looks like the above. To do it back up you just slip it back on and use the Allen Key to do it back up.

There is almost no room in there and its a PITA to do...but possible.

Good luck!

Ahhhh. That's teach me. That is indeed the door knob. My door knob is in a seperate recess as its a 98. Earlier Chims have the door knob in the same recess as the gear knob. You were after gear-knob-handling-instructions...Sorry about the misinformation...

Never needed to get the gear knob off yet. Ooer. hehe

Hi Aubrey,

Just replaced mine at xmas, you need to put on a rubber glove (for a decent grip) and twist with all your strength. Mine took a lot of force, but as soon as it broke the seal, it went very easily. Replaced with this: http://www.thetvrshop.com/TVR/Parts_details/TVR%20... and it went on no problems at all. Just remember to move the locking nut when putting on the new one so that it screws up tight, but with the pattern facing the right way! thumbup

Ni Nick, thats great thanks, so it should just screw off? It does seem to have a metal sleeve under the knob as a previous poster mentioned. I'll try both methods!

I'd always put rubber gloves on if I was forced to get a knob off yikes you might also want one of these:

Oh, and if you are helping out a Griffter one of these will be needed:

I got a new knob as a Xmas prezzy and although a real struggle the old knob did eventually un-screw.

But as said, it takes a good deal of welly - remember, it's been on there a looooong time.

I got the leven knob - you can 'palm' it easier when wanting quicker acceleration and is more comfortable 'in-hand'.

My knob came loose on a London up and down and under the Thames run recently yikes. I think you will find a lock nut under your knob (as I did). Bit worried about the Marigolds though, where has that knob been lately?
