HELP, I`VE JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST TVR!
Discussion
LOL,, good choice,,, wait 'till you drive the Chim,, all doubts about your purchase will go flying out the window, and you will giggle to yourself at the mere thought of wanting a BMW after a trip in the Blackpool monster!!
I know, as I (and I'm sure quite a few others had reservations before choosing TVR), felt the same,, but now,,, I could not be without it,, everytime you drive it, it is a treat!!
If it's from a dealer, make sure it has just been serviced, make sure the service book is up to date, and insist on a TVR Warranty, (although after almost a year with my Chim, I have not had any major issues at all!!)

You did well. BMW? Do me a favour!
Things to look out for are:
Drivers who drop their window as you go by
Pedestrians walking into immovable objects as their head turns to follow you down the street
White van drivers doing an impression of shaking a sauce bottle as you sit next to them at traffic lights
Trying to justify a 40 mile blast when you were just going down to the shop at the end of the road
Spending too much time reading about the woes and tribulations of TVR ownership among the very small minority - don't do that, just drive it and come back if/when you need advice
I don't want to detain you further so get out their and enjoy!

Alan, I know its exciting
but
No need to shout.
Of course you did the right thing. If you are not grinning already you will be very shortly and it will stay with you for weeks. Just the thought of going for a drive will make you smile and driving will give you a big grin
Join the TVRCC (if you are not already a member) and get along to one of the meets (two regions in Kent).
Remeber that things will go wrong but mostly its niggly things and people here or at the car club will be able to help.
Now the important things - colour combination, age, mileage, when you are picking it up ?
Just remember its not a BMW so the indicators do work and wave at every TVR you meet
Welcome to the world of TVR
Bob

Yep, agree totally with what Hut49 wrote.
This forum is excellent for anything TVR related, and there are always loads of very genuine, great guys (and girls) only too willing to give advice and help in any way they can.
I had a problem with my oil pressure gauge, and wrote a thread stating this. Whitin a couple of hours, my problem was diagnosed as the sender unit. Based on the advice from this very forum, I went to the garage, asked for the sender unit to be changed, and once done, no more problems!!! All thanks to this forum! If I went to the same garage blindly, there's a chance I could have been fobbed off with buying parts I didn't need, but, because of the advice on this forum, the guys thought I knew what I was talking about!
Don't forget too, that people write on the forums when they do have problems, or need advice about their TVRs, they don't often write the positives (although it does happen, as driving the TVRs is such an elating experience)

SPENT SO LONG TRYING TO WORK OUT WHICH TVR WOULD SUIT ME AND I`VE GONE FOR A CHIMAERA 500.LOVE AT FIRST SITE BUT ANY COMMENTS AND INFO ON IT WOULD BE HELPFUL. THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR AND SO FORTH.HAVE I DONE THE RIGHT THING OR SHOULD I HAVE BOUGHT A BMW LIKE MY MRS SAID!!!!!!!!! AL
One of the things you will notice is a change in people's attitude. People seem to like TVRs for some reason and their comments will make you smile. Last week when I returned home from a nice wee run, I couldn't get into my driveway for the wheeliebin washer's van, so I waited until he'd finished, and sat there with the engine idling nicely. He climbed back into his van and sat and looked at me for ages, then he pulled along side me and stopped, and said to me " Now, THAT'S a f***ing car son"

He's obviously a very highly trained operative - you couldn't fool him - he instinctively knew (after ten minutes scanning the object in front of him) that it wasn't a normal wheelie bin.
Pity as you could have got away with a cheap interior and exterior valet!
Better luck next time - stick a few old newspapers out through the targa-top!

I've just had a run through the yorkshire dales today and,due to the lack of petrol stations in the small villages(or at least ones that are open on a sunday)I was starting to get a bit twitchy.
However in one place,I asked two separate people(who had come over looking at the car)for directions to the nearest petrol station and both came back with a gallon of fuel each-neither of them would let me give them any money for it!
It's nice to see there's still some decent folk around, but,it also just goes to show that everybody loves TVR's!!
