Noticed yesterday car using quite a bit of water. Run car in drive and checked underneath. Steady trickle of water running down the engine block at the front drivers side. A close look and thought it may be the water pump / gasket. However closer inspection this morning pump / gasket seem fine.
Looks to be coming from behind the pump, poss Timing cover gasket.
car is a 400 chim W reg ( 2000 ) with 14200 miles on clock, is this poss on a car of this mileage / year.
As trackvroad in clitheroe service the car i am ringing them tomorrow in a view to taking the car up there to have done. However little worried about driving approx 30 to 35 miles while losing coolant.
Otherwise anybody know ant TVR friendly garages in the St Helens, Merseyside area and approx cost.

Yes it is totally possible and not uncommon. My Dad's 2001 450 blew it's front cover gasket last year, bit of a job to strip it all down, but straight forward enough. Gaskets available from V8D etc . .

He was on his way racing, stopped at the local garage 3 miles up the road and it's there coolant all over the floor, goes back home and gets the other car and heds off . .

Sounds like timing cover gasket. Had this fault recently & entrusted work to a local (Plymouth) former MG dealership. Cost was high (£600), but this did include new water pump + oil & filter change, done at my request.
