Mirror wiring problem
Discussion
I have searched the forum, but cant find info for my year/model. The bible wiring diagram colours dont match either.
So here is the problem.
Right mirror adjustment works fine.
Left mirror goes up and down but it does that when you move the joy stick left and right. It will also move left when you move the joystick up(or down -I cant remember which ) but it wont go right at all.
As it moves left the servo motor must be working OK so I suspect a wiring fault. (I have only had the car 4 months and the mirror has never worked properly.)
I know the door panel has been removed at some time to fix the cigar lighter, so maybe the its been connected back up wrongly.
Can anybody please tell me the the wiring colours and position for the left/ right selector switch and joy stick for a 1997 500

Are the colours like the ones at http://tvr3.dspen.com/Corrado-Mirror/CorradoMirror...
That was my mirror set up, I only added one link to standard, the mirrors themselves are different thats all.

ETA: whooops, had a full stop after the link

Thanks Dave.
Wiring colours to the 'change over switch' are different
I have:-
Light Green (when disconnected Left Mirror- L&R adjustment dosnt work)
Black and White (when disconnected Right Mirror- L&R adjustment dosnt work)
Brown and Green (when disconnected Left Mirror- U&D adjustment dosnt work and Right Mirror- L&R adjustment dosnt work)
Red (when disconnected Left Mirror- U&D adjustment dosnt work and Right Mirror- U&D adjustment dosnt work)
Brown and Black (when disconected everything that does work still worked)
Grey (when disconected nothing worked)
Also when the selector switch is in the middle the left mirror up and down still works !
I am confused to say the least
Any help anyone.

Yep thats possible, although the connector that actualy fits into the motor module (bezzle thing)can only fit one way.
But you can remove & insert the pins..., which you have to do if you want to extract from the mounting boss IIRC

I think the fact that a mirror works when the selector switch is in the middle position points to a problem there maybe ?
If the heater element ground is (mis)connected to the mirror motor you would see these exact symptoms I think?Dave
Hi Peter
The mirror was taken apart a couple of years ago to replace the door opener switch, and the door card was removed to modify the ciggy lighter, but as far as I can recall, the mirror adjustment has always misbehaved. As it happens, it was always in the perfect position for me, and I never let my wife drive, so it was not a problem.

Can't really figure out much from that, sorry.
Essentially you have 5 wires going to each mirror. 2 wires are for the heated element and can be ignored.
The 3 significant wires operate 2 motors, up/down and L/R. 1 wire is common to both motors, and the other 2 wires connect to the other pole of each motor.
The 'electrickery' selects which pair of wires to use (L/R or U/D) and further makes them +/- or -/+ depending which way it wants to move.. It at least sounds like the slate (you said grey) wire is the common wire.
I can only suggest that armed with this 'simple' logic you go through it with a multimeter to figure out what is going on.
The changeover switch in the central position disconnects 2 of the circuits, the remaining connection will go +ve / -ve depending which way you move it.
If the previous owner says the mirror has been removed (wiring and all - I would start looking at the mirror connector in the door, you can probably do most of this with a mmeter and some jumpers. If you need to swap some of these around I put a bitof info on how to dis & assemble the connectors at

It might be that the up/down & left/right wires have been switched. That would explaoin the oppsite movements. Then, perhaps the mirror has been removed for maintenance, the joystick pushed right as far as it will go in the meantime, and then the mirror replaced. This would explain why it won't go (any further) right. Just a thought, and I might have got my lefts and rights muddled, but I reckon it makes sense. So, I'd whip off the mirror (so there's no obstruction to movement) and see how the joystick then behaves. If it goes all directions as it should, centre it first before reassembling.
