My Chim is dead, I survived

Hello PH'ers. First of all thank you very much for the many good wishes concerning my recovery. I hope adding the pics works, I am doing it for the first time.
Today it is exactly a month ago that I got almost killed by a really drunk driver in my newly owned chim. this man was approaching the corner at a very high speed, but being local he knew how to cut the corners, but there i was in my car. I was pretty slow with a cold engine having just changed into 2nd gear with 2000 rpm, going round the corner when this maniac hit me from 10-11 o'clock position, just after the front wheel.
as you can see in the picture there is not much side protection in a chim, the chassis rails being so low(and only slightly dented), that his car really entered mine!
his left frontwheel stopped against the gearbox tunnel, his front bumper and bodypanels shaving off the handbrake lever, gearlever and completer lower part of my dashboard. the radio fell out my car when the police opened my driver door.
I am really lucky his radiator did not break, so I have a lot of broken bones, but no burns.
I am already searching the adds for a new one, but I am not sure if my better half will allow me another one. She was frightened to death after her first passenger drive in my car, she thought my car was the same as an MGB

yes they got him, now they are investigating the whole accident and I hope I will get compensation for my car and putting me off work (I am self employed).
As you can see (well you cannot really) it is a RHD car and this really saved my life!
If the car was LHD, I am sure I had no chance to survive that accident.

Thats pretty horrific Berndt, how did you end up on the LHS of the road??
Must admit its the kind of impact that has always made me think that having a vertical roll bar linked to the outriggers would at least give a little more protection.
Hope your recovery is progressing well (or maybe you are surrounded by enough pretty young nurses you would prefer it to take a little longer

from what the experts told me, my car was hit just after the front wheel, then turned clockwise into the other car and pushed back tangetial (I don't know how to say in english)for about 15-20 yards. So we finally stopped on the other side, almost 20 yards away from where the impact happened. I was told that if I was on his side when the accident happened we would have stopped in the field, no longer on the street.
as you can see none of his frontwheels touch the ground, so there was no possible wy of steering

Looks like the guy well and truely T-Boned youre car.. I hope the full course of justice is served...
I can understand your 'good lady' being concerned about another but i still would. They are fantastic cars and not much else comes close for driving experience.. but i wouldnt blame you if you decided against it. Thats one hell of a crash to life to tell the tale from.

I'll echo other peoples sentiments, I'm so glad you're ok! Yes it's a beautiful car but you won't have any problems getting insurance money with a drunk driver. I hope he goes down for many years for what he has done, it is utterly stupid and so irresponsible to drink drive, thank god your passenger seat was empty.
