Try unplugging the new alternator and see if the light goes out on the dash with the motor running.
If it does then it could be the new alternator faulty (has been known)

If the light is still on it could be a fault with the brake fluid warning circuit.
Does the light go off when you have the alt unplugged and the handbrake off?

Don't you mean with the ignition on without the motor running?

Try telling us which alt it is, and plugged / spades / ring terminals..

We have them all, and there are no details of your car in the post or your profile?

How about checking the voltage of the battery without engine running (expect around 12.6 volts) and with the engine running (expect 14.2 volts).

If you have these figures then the problem is unlikely to be alternator.

Had this problem on mine @ 7 years ago and it turned out to be the 100 amp chassis mounted fuse?
ETA (chassis mounted)
